The more scientists worked on finding out more about the cell the more they learned about cells. Plus the microscopes became more advanced then the more they could see what was in the cell.

Although Hooke and Leeuwenhoek were the first to report observing cells, the importance was not realized until about 150 years later. Biologists then began to organize information about cells into a unified understanding. from Modern Biology. Holt, Rinehart, and Winston. Because the microscopes Hooke had were useless for detail and it took 200 years to get a good enough microscope. Along with this nobody thought cells of any importance until later.
