Why shaved vulva?

Vulva shaving is not a new thing. Do a search for "shaving pubic hair" to find out more.

But the question is, why shaved vulva? Shaving male and female genitals is a very personal decision. When a friend asked her ob/gyn about it, she learned from the doctor that it is more common then she thought. The doctor started keeping informal records of shaved versus natural in 2005. Here are some abbreviated results:

Women are listed by age groups. The percentage listed is for those that shave their vulvas. The doctor actually recorded whether vulvas are (completely shaved, hair left on the (b.)mons ppubis/mound, or (c.)next to labia/lips only.

This doctor's practice is in an urban area (Denver) and is not a scientific survey.

Women with daughters who are teens and 20s tend are more inclined to shave their vulvas if their daughters shave, too. About 20% of the women wax their vulvas. Interestingly, women who shave report that the more years they shave, the less frequently they shave. It seems that pubic hair begins to grow back slower and the hair is lighter/wispier. 20% of the women volunteered that they wear skits/dresses more often and, when they do, they do not wear panties.

Many women also say that at least 50% of their male and female partners now shave regularly.

Why shave? Women say the following:

-I feel it is healthier and cleaner.

- I like the way it feels.

-I like the way my vulva looks

-My partner likes the way my vulva looks.

-It enhances/improves sex.

-Enhances oral sex for me.

-Enhances my partners' oral sex.

-Increases my sexual arousal.

-Increases my partners sexual arousal.

-Intensifies my orgasms.

-Intensifies my partners orgasms.
