Tissues are a group of cells that are similar to each other that hold together, and are used for different functions. Then tissues are organized together to make larger structures like organs, and then of course organ systems are made up of different organs. Therefore, cells alone do not have all these functions needed for large multicellular organisms, but when they are organized in things such as, tissues, organs and organ systems they can do more things which is why even though cells are the basic unit of life, all those things are required.
