Yes, but they must be protected from frost during the first 3 years. There are mature banyan trees in Brownsville, Texas and there are two growing outdoors at Moody Gardens on Galveston Island. They are next to the walkway bridge by the entrance to the Palm Beach swimming area. There was also a large banyan in San Benito, Texas but I am not certain it is still there. There's also one across from the Alamo near the entrance to the a hotel and the river walk. Rubber trees can also develop banyan type characteristics and are in the same family. There are large outdoor rubber trees on Yale street in the Heights area of Houston and in Palacios, Texas.Good luck!
