You would want to buy them young. I bought mine when we were still feeding it by liquids. You want to buy them young so they grow to know you, and respect you more like their mother. Also, sometimes birds like these end up only liking one person from the family you are in. So, if you buy them older they may only like the last owner they had and be mean to you. You don't want a crabby African Grey, considering they can take your finger off if they have a strong enough bite. I'd also be careful where you buy the bird, because they live up to be almost 100. So, make sure you get the right one!!
