Peahens nest on the ground for 28 days and stay grounded for a week or two after that, until their chicks can fly up to roost safely in a tree at night. While on the ground, they are easy prey. Their muted colors (gray back, green neck, white belly) help India Blue peahens hide and blend in with a wild landscape of rocks, soil, tree stumps, and greenery.
