House flies are insects so they have the typical insect features: * body divided into three parts: head , thorax and abdomen * three pairs of legs attached to the thorax * a pair of antennae (feelers) on the head * a pair of compound eyes on the head * wings attached to the thorax The thorax has four broad, black stripes on its upper (dorsal) surface. Flies belonging to the order Diptera have one pair of wings with the second pair reduced to small 'balancing' organs, called halteres, behind them. The mouthparts (the proboscis) are adapted for sucking up liquids. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Housefly http://www5.pbrc.Hawaii.edu/microangela/hfly.htm
