Lovebirds (genus Agapornis )eat mostly fruit, grains, and seeds.

In captivity as pets they should be fed much the same as parrots. A good formulated diet in pellet form should make up the base of their diet. They love to eat mixed seeds, but you should not make seeds more than 25% of their diets because they are too high in fat for the nutrition value they provide otherwise. Also make available large varieties of fresh vegetables and fruits. Some examples of fruits they like are berries, peaches, bananas, grapes, Oranges, apples and melon (no rind). Good fresh vegetables to add to their diets are carrots, greens, broccoli, green beans, and corn. Never give them avocado, rhubarb, or chocolate. They can be toxic to the birds and so can fruit pits and apple seeds, so be sure those are removed before being offered. The other foods that should be given to balance the diet of lovebirds are grains, such as cooked brown rice, oats, barley, pasta or cooked beans.
