Pigeons have been trained to carry messages in the past.
That , again, would depend upon the tribe. Some tribes believe the Hawk is a protector. Some believed they carried messages from the Creator and/ or the spirit world, much like the eagle. Others believed that the Red Tail Hawk was simply a beautiful bird.
Homing pigeons only go one place: home. To use them for carrying messages, they must be carried to remote locations and released. No matter where they are released, they always find their way back to their home. Anything in the message tube can then be retrieved by anyone who has access to the bird's caging area.
The blue, white, and black bird in local folklore symbolizes wisdom, guidance, and protection. It is believed to bring messages from the spirit world and serve as a guardian for those in need.

it sends messages in the myth (all i know)
to deliver food, medicine, messages ....in the animal world courier pigeons were trained to return to their roost from very long distances and so often carried messages between countries during love trysts, war, political situations etc...the courier pigeon would fly to it's destination..the msg would be read and then an answer or response would return with the bird to its starting point....dogs especially during wartime also had a similar role to play...and you've likely heard of the St. Bernard dogs which deliver aid to folk buried in avalanche or inaccessible places that the dogs can get to.....there are also malamutes and husky dogs that do the same kind of courier work be it messages , water, a life saving drug or serum or such like things...
