Absolutely. If the hawk is hungry enough, it will go after a pet. Wildlife is becoming increasing comfortable around people (we keep expanding into their habitat) so there is a great chance a hawk would attack small pets near a house.

Hawks have considerable strength, and their talons make them even more dangerous to pets. If you have even just one hawk near your home, don't ever leave your pet, such as a cat or small breed dog, outside unattended.

Hawks have been known to swoop down and snatch up small pets in a matter of mere seconds. Once the hawk has your pet, there is nothing you can do, so always keep an eye out for them.
