Sorry I couldn't post pictures but this should still help.
1. Remove both sides of the lower plastic housing of the motor (remove tilt switch during this time).
2. Tilt motor (Propeller up)
3. Mark the steering counter tab.
4. Remove steering counter tab to access seventh bolt seen at the left of the bottom left picture.
5. Remove seventh bolt.
6. Tilt motor (Propeller down) until the bottom is close to ground.
7. Remove the six remaining bolts from underneath and allow to drop just enough to access the rubber hose going into bottom.
8. Gently pry hose of plastic housing.
9. Support lower motor and tilt (propeller up) allow lower motor to slide down until both rods clear the motor.
10. Remove 4 water pump bolts.
11. Slide housing and impeller up the shaft.
12. Gently pry metal tab from shaft with screw driver
13. Remove bottom plate and the gasket underneath.
14. Clean and/or sand bottom.
15. Replace new gasket and bottom plate
16. Gently tap new metal tab into shaft
17. Push impeller into housing (note the groove in the middle).
18. Gently slide housing and impeller down shaft making sure to align the tab with impeller groove.
19. Evenly snug housing bolts.
20. Lightly grease shaft fittings.
21. Slide top of small shaft back into top of motor (be sure to center into fitting at top).
22. Place lower unit back under motor while aligning both shafts and tilt motor (propeller down) until you can reconnect hose.
23. Reconnect hose
24. Insert seven retaining bolts until the just catch by hand and tighten evenly with wrench.

does the lower unit need to be removed to replace the water pump on a 1995 Johnson 115 hp outboard engine
with tools.
it does not have a waterpump!
A Mercury outboard water pump is a engine cooling system. A outboard water pump is what blows steam through to get the car cool,
For a comprehensive answer to this go to marinedoctor.com Ther is a section dealing with this specif question on a 70 hp johnson.
The 15 horsepower Mercury outboard motor does not have a water pump. The outboard motor is air cooled and does not have a need for circulating water.
To change the water pump on a 15HP Johnson outboard, first ensure the engine is off and cooled down. Remove the lower unit by unscrewing the bolts holding it in place, then disconnect the shift linkage. Take off the old water pump housing and impeller, clean the area, and install the new impeller and housing, ensuring proper alignment. Finally, reassemble the lower unit and test the pump for proper water flow.
To replace a Suzuki outboard water pump, start by removing the lower unit by unbolting it and disconnecting the shift linkage. Remove the old water pump by taking off the cover and pulling out the impeller and housing. Clean the surfaces, then install the new water pump by placing the new impeller and housing in their respective positions. Finally, reassemble the lower unit, ensuring all bolts are tightened and the shift linkage is reconnected.
To replace the water pump on a 1989 Mercury Force 125 HP outboard, start by removing the lower unit. Disconnect the shift rod and any associated bolts, then gently pull the lower unit down. Once removed, take off the water pump housing by unscrewing the bolts, and replace the impeller and gaskets. Reassemble the water pump and lower unit, ensuring everything is securely fastened and properly aligned before reattaching it to the engine.
Once the water pump is removed, the shaft will slide out, the 15hp driveshaft is free floating,
The water pump on an outboard motor is located low down on the skeg. To replace it, you have to remove the lower unit. The impeller water pump is a housing attached to the upper unit, surrounding the shaft. It must be replaced exactly right, so obtaining a proper servicing manual is strongly recommended.
