Test your two primary points with ohms should read zero - where your spark plug wire goes in is your secondary - test it with one primary point should read resistance then test other primary point with secondary should read the same - coil is good - if two primary are not zero bad coil - if second with primary read zero coil is bad.

You can find a coil for a Sears 7HP Ted Williams outboard motor at various online retailers, such as eBay, Amazon, or specialty marine parts websites. Additionally, local marine supply stores or small engine repair shops may carry compatible parts. If you're looking for specific OEM parts, contacting Sears or checking with vintage outboard motor forums could also be helpful.
To test the ignition coil on a 1973 Evinrude 65 HP outboard motor, first disconnect the spark plug wires and remove the coil from the engine. Use a multimeter to measure the primary and secondary resistance: the primary should typically be around 0.5 to 1.5 ohms, while the secondary should range from 5,000 to 10,000 ohms. If the readings are outside these values, the coil may need to be replaced. Reinstall the coil and reconnect the spark plug wires, then test for spark using a spark tester if needed.
The best rated outboard motor companies are Honda, Yamaha, Mercury, Evinride, and Suzuki. These companies are rated on their performance with only a helmsman and a test equipment operator.
