The world's oldest hovercraft passenger company, Hovertravel, use British Hovercraft AP1-88 on their scheduled service from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight (England), which seat 101 passengers.
The largest passenger hovercraft was the SR.N4, used on routes that included the cross-channel Dover-Calais, seated 254 passengers.
There are primarily two types of hovercraft: light hovercraft and heavy hovercraft. Light hovercraft are typically used for recreational purposes and can carry a small number of passengers or cargo. Heavy hovercraft, on the other hand, are designed for commercial or military applications and can transport larger loads over various terrains. Additionally, hovercraft can be categorized based on their design and propulsion systems, leading to further variations within these two main types.
