One U-Boat hit a landmine. Another boat's torpedoes didn't explode. But by the outbreak of WW1, the U-boats were ready for sea battle. The German U-Boat campaign would prove to be a smart move militarily, but a bad move politically. Because of the unrestricted submarine warfare targeting the neutral ships and passenger liner's, the United States would be pressured into war, and by April 1917, had finally joined it.
