Music is most often used to create or enhance a mood, while books are intended to convey information.

Music, with or without song, is a principally an aural experience. While music may be written, it serves only to instruct the instrumentalist in rendition of the music. A song may be fairly blunt, or poetic, or even tell a story, but it is generally constrained to the style and rhythm of the accompanying score, otherwise it is no longer song, but simply someone reciting speech with background music- not entirely unheard of, even if usually in parody.

A book is a printed or written (or digital text) work with the main purpose of conveying information directly to the reader. 'Audio books' are auditory renditions of written works, but while they may utilise music for mood, the music and the 'book' are distinct aspects of the work. Books may also comprise diagrams, pictures, musical notation, fact or fiction, and many other types of information; books serve as tools of education and instruction as well as entertainment.
