Carbon's electronic configuration is-2,4 and hence it has

4 electrons in the outer most shell.

Therefore it is highly difficult for it to give electrons and highly

difficult for it to be stable after gaining an additional 4 electrons.

But Carbon does give and also take electrons under certain

favourable conditions.

Does Carbon take electrons from oxygen in carbon dioxide?

In a carbon dioxide molecule, carbon does not take electrons from oxygen. Instead, carbon shares electrons with oxygen through covalent bonds, forming a stable molecule.

What is the main reason so many molecules are made from carbon atoms?

Because , Carbon has 4 valence electrons , which is the best number of valence electrons , because it can easily give or take or share that number . . (: ~ Hope this heelps . <3

give

How can the number of core electrons be detemined from the periodic table?

Take carbon as an example.Carbon, indicated by it's atomic number, has 6 electrons. The number at the top of carbon's group is the number of valance electrons. Carbon has 4 valance elections.6 total electrons - 4 valance electrons= 2 core electrons in carbon=====================(try another element yourself to see this process )

Do cations give or take electrons?

Cations are formed when an atom loses electrons, resulting in a positively charged ion. Therefore, cations give away electrons rather than take them.

How many electrons would an atom of carbon need to have to be a negative ion?

There are six electrons in two shells. In order to stable carbon, it take electrons from nearest noble gas to stable the carbon. It order to stable carbon it gain -4 electrons from the nearest noble gas Neon.

How many electrons does carbon have to give up to achieve a noble gas configuration?

4 but it will need energy, so carbon gain 4 electrons to achieve a noble gas configuration.

Why doesnt neon take or give electrons?

neon has completely filled orbitals, obeys octet and has stable electronic configuration. Hence it does not take or give electrons.
