The dot structure for ammonium, or NH4 begins with a single N atom in the center. At each cardinal direction, there is one single bonded H atom. The entire structure is bracketed and noted with a + superscript.

Ammonium (NH4+) is made up of a Nitrogen atom (N) with five valence electrons and four Hydrogen atoms (H) with one valence electron per Hydrogen atom.

All four H atoms bond covalently with the N atom. There will be an extra electron that is not needed, as all of the valence shells have been filled - so, the NH4+ molecule will lose that electron to another molecule and gain a positive charge (with a total of nine protons and eight electrons, there is a +1 charge).

You can illustrate this bond like the one below:

Drawingæthe Lewis Dot Structure for the Nh4 equation first set up the 5 atoms with the N in the middle and 4 Hs above, under, left and right of the N.Then count the total valence of the electrons, draw single bonds between the bonds, put theærest of theæelectrons into side by side pairs, and make the atoms with octets are there.

What is a Lewis Structure?

A Lewis structure is a model that uses electron-dot structures to show how electrons are arranged in molecules. Pairs of dots or lines represent bonding pairs this is a CO32− model

The dot structure for I will have have 7 dots around it. This will consist of 3 lone pairs, and then 1 single electron.

What is the hybridization of the central sulfur atom in SF4?

It should be sp3d. first draw the Lewis structure. then you can see the central S atom has 4 bonding pair and 1 lone pair. then draw molecular orbital. Distribute electron according the bonding and lone pair. the paired electron represent lone pair in Lewis structure. and the other unpaired electron distribute in the molecular orbital represent the number of bonding pair in Lewis structure

What do the dots in a Lewis structure represent?

Valence electrons.

Lewis structure hclo4?

Look at chemexper.com You can look up any chemical (by name or condensed structure). It doesn't give you the Lewis structure, but it does give you how the molecules are bonded. To make the lewis structure, just add in the non-bonding electron pairs.
