Not all permanent markers are the same. First try rubbing alcohol (this is usually isopropyl alcohol) or any kind of alcohol that you have. That often works. If it doesn't, then a more serious solvent such as a paint remover may be needed. Of course, if you use paint remover on your painted wall, you will also remove some of the paint and you may need to repaint. But you will definitely get the permanent marker off.
