Your question is not right, since an atom has no charge, and charge anyway does not effect the number of protons.

Anyway, you already have the answer since the atomic number IS the number of protons.

Or else if you do not have the atomic number, you can get it using mass - number of neutrons.

What identifies the number of an atom?

An atom consists of protons (positive charge), neutrons (no charge), and electrons (negative charge). The atomic number is the number of protons. Furthermore, the mass number is the sum of the protons and neutrons.

What is the atomic number always equal to?

The number of protons in the nucleus of each atom that has the atomic number.

What does the atomic number tells you?

The atomic number tells you how many protons and electrons are in a specific element.Atomic number tells us about protons. Number of protons that atom contains.

How do you find the atomic number in an atom?

What number of protons there are that's the atomic number. B/c the atomic number is the same as the number of protons. Electrons are usually of the same quantity, however in ions (an atom with a charge) they vary. this is what gives an atom a positive or negative charge.

How is an atoms atomic number related to it's number of protons to electrons?

The atomic number of an atom is the number of protons in the nucleus of that atom. The number of electrons will equal the number of protons in that atom if that atom is a neutral one. Other than that, we would have to know the atomic number (which is the number of protons that atom has), and the overall charge of the atom. With that information, we could discover how many electrons that atom had by simple mathematics. If an atom had 11 protons and a charge of +1, it would have one less electron than the number of protons, or 10 electrons. If an atom had 53 protons and a charge of -1, it would have 54 electrons. The ratio from atomic number to the number of protons in an atom is 1:1. The elements are categorized by the number of protons they have, as that is the difference between two elements. Conceptually, atomic number and proton number are the same.

How many electrons orbit the nucleus if the atom has no charge?

If the atom has no charge, then the number of electrons is the same as the number of protons (atomic number).

How can i figure out the number of electrons in an atom?

If the charge on the atom is zero, then the number of electrons is equal to the atomic number. e.g. 126C : atomic number = 6. This means there are 6 protons in the nucleus of the atom. There is no charge on the atom, so number of electrons must equal number of protons to cancel charge (6 electrons).

Atomic number is the same as the number of?

The atomic number is the same as the number of protons in an element. It is sometimes also the same as the number of electrons depending on the charge of the element.

What is the charge of the nucleus of an atom and?

The positive charge of the atomic nucleus is given by the number of protons.

The charge on a nucleus of the atom?

The charge of the atomic nucleus is positive and dependent on the number of protons.

What is the nuclear charge of an atom with an atomic mass of 35amu and atomic number of 17?

The mass number of an isotope of an element is defined as the sum of the numbers of protons and neutrons in the nucleus of each atom of the isotope. The atomic number is defined as the number of protons only in the nucleus. Therefore, an atom with an atomic number. Since neutrons have no electric charge, the nuclear charge of the specified atom is 17 amu.

How do you find the number of electrons for an element?

It is the same as the number of protons if it is a neutral atom, or the number of protons plus the charge of the ion. The number of protons is the atomic number of the element.
