Answer 2: The rules for scientific notation state that the number being times 10n must be a real number between 1 - 10. So .2 x 102 is not acceptable. 1.2 x 102 is acceptable. n must be a whole number and cannot be a decimal, fraction, or otherwise a non real number. 1.2 x 102/3 is not acceptable and 1.2 x 109898989898 is acceptable (just would be a very very very long number)
