When a substance is dissolved in water, its ions become surrounded by charged water molecules forming what is called an Hydration shell. Thus, when dissloved in Water, HCl dissociates into H+ ions and Cl- ions each of which are surrounded by H2O molecules and efectively mixed into the water very efficiently. The presence of the H+ ions is by definition what makes HCl(aq) an acid. Since water will behave this way with any Ionic compound, water is not added into the equation, but merely noted by the '(aq)' that I used above. HClO3 contains a chlorate ion ClO3- and is referred to as Chloric acid. aq stands for 'aqueous', which is latin for 'in water'

Aqueous hydrogen chloride is a solution of hydrogen chloride gas dissolved in water. It forms hydrochloric acid when dissolved in water. It is a strong acid.

Does hydrogen chlorine dissolve?

Assuming that the question is asking if hydrogen chloride is soluble in water, yes. Hydrogen chloride, when dissolved in water, becomes Hydrochloric acid.

What is added to hydrogen chloride gas to make hydrochloric acid?

Water. Hydrochloric acid is just hydrogen chloride gas dissolved in pure water.

What are the differences between hydrogen chloride and hydrochloric acid?

Hydrogen chloride is a gas composed of hydrogen and chlorine atoms, while hydrochloric acid is a solution of hydrogen chloride gas dissolved in water. Hydrogen chloride is a pure substance, while hydrochloric acid is a chemical compound. Hydrogen chloride is a gas at room temperature, while hydrochloric acid is a liquid.

When do you call HCl as hydrogen chloride and when do you call hydrochloric acid?

HCl is called hydrogen chloride when it is in its gaseous form, and hydrochloric acid when it is dissolved in water.

What is hydrogen chloride known as?

Hydrogen chloride in aqueous solution is commonly known as hydrochloric acid.

When hydrogen chloride is dissolved in water to form hydrochloric acid what happens to the hydrogen chloride?

when hydrogen chloride is dissolved in water to form hydrochloric acid, the hydrogen chloride turns to HCL subscript 38 because of the water molecules. i also believe that they change from clear to a misty green colour but it may just be the result of a dirty test tube.

Difference between hydrochloric acid and hydrogen chloride?

Hydrochloric acid (HCl) is a solution of hydrogen chloride in water. Hydrogen chloride (HCl) is a gas at room temperature that is highly soluble in water, forming hydrochloric acid. Hydrochloric acid is commonly used in industry and laboratory settings for various purposes, while hydrogen chloride is primarily used in the production of other chemicals.

How does hydrochloric acid dissociate when dissolved in water?

When hydrochloric acid is dissolved in water, it dissociates into hydrogen ions (H) and chloride ions (Cl-). This process is known as ionization.

Is hydrogen chloride and acid?

Yes, hydrogen chloride is acidic when dissolved in water because it forms hydrochloric acid. Hydrochloric acid is a strong acid that can dissociate almost completely in solution to release hydrogen ions.

What is the colour of hydrogen chloride?

Hydrogen chloride is a colourless gas , with a strong acid smell.
