Ammonium hydroxide is an ionic compound. However, both ions in the compound have covalent bonds inside them. Solid ammonium hydroxide does not exist, it is only found in solution and is formed when NH3 is dissolved.

NH3(aq) + H2O <-> NH4+ +OH-
