Yes, hydrogen fluoride is an acid; a very dangerous one!

Hydrogen fluoride is hydrofluoric acid.

What hydrogen fluoride is:
  • Hydrogen fluoride is a chemical compound that contains fluorine. It can exist as a colorless gas or as a fuming liquid, or it can be dissolved in water.
  • When hydrogen fluoride is dissolved in water, it may be called hydrofluoric acid.
  • Hydrogen fluoride also can be released when some other fluoride-containing compounds such as ammonium fluoride are combined with water.

Fluoride is an alkali because the pH number is higher than 7 and a colour past green (approx. a blue/purple), therefore it contains alkaline chemicals which makes it and alkali not an acid.

No. Fluorine is a diatomic molecular gas, but it is not an acid. It will readily react with water and other hydrogen-containing compounds to form hydrogen fluoride, which is a diatomic acid.

How does methoxyflurane cause floride toxicity?

§ Methoxyflurane → methoxydifluoroacetic acid (MDFA) <chlorination> § Methoxyflurane → fluoride + dichloroacetic acid <O-demethylation> § MDFA degrades to fluoride § Experiments have shown that it is probably the combination of fluoride and dichloroacetic acid which causes nephrotoxicity.

What Acids contain fluoride and iodide anions?

Hydroiodic acid (HI) is an acid which contains the iodide anion. Likewise, hydrofluoric acid (HF) is an acid which contains the fluoride anion. HF is a weak acid, although HI (like HCl and HBr) is a strong acid.
