The atomic weight/mass is the average weight of all the isotopes of that element. Adding the number of protons and neutrons together does equal to the atomic weight, but only if you round the decimal.

For example the element sulfur (atomic number 16) has an Atomic Mass of 32.066. This is not a whole number, but that does not mean that sulfur has 16.066 neutrons. Instead, you would just say that the atomic mass is 32 amu and subtract the number of protons, which is the same as the atomic number, from the atomic mass. Sulfur therefore has 16 neutrons, protons, and electrons.

What is the number of protons neutrons and electrons of carbon 12?

Carbon-12 has 6 protons, 6 neutrons, and 6 electrons. The number of protons determines the element (carbon), the number of neutrons plus protons gives the mass number (12), and in a neutral atom, the number of electrons equals the number of protons.

What is the number of protons electrons and neutrons in n-14?

Nitrogen-14: 7 Protons, 7 Electrons, 7 Neutrons To work this out in the future for other elements: Protons = Atomic Number Electrons = Atomic Number Neutrons = Atomic Mass - Atomic Number Hope this helps!

What is the protons neutrons and electrons for 65Zn?

Protons- 30 Electrons- 30 Neutrons- 35 Zn-65 means the atomic number plus the number of neutrons equals 65. Zinc always has 30 protons; therefore, it's atomic number is 30 and it has 30 protons and electrons. The remaining number is the neutrons: 65-30= 35

How many protons newtrons and electrons?

An atom's nucleus contains protons and neutrons, while electrons orbit around the nucleus. The number of protons defines the element, the number of neutrons can vary within isotopes of the element, and the number of electrons equals the number of protons in a neutral atom.

When is an atom neutral When mass number equals number of protons equals number of electrons or when atomic number equals number of protons equals number of electrons?

An atom is neutral when the number of protons in the nucleus equals the number of electrons surrounding the nucleus. This means that the atom has no overall charge, as the positive charge of the protons is balanced by the negative charge of the electrons. The mass number, which is the sum of protons and neutrons, does not necessarily impact the neutrality of the atom.

How do the numbers of protons neutrons and electrons for an element compare?

In the neutral state, all atoms of the same element contain equal numbers of protons and electrons. However, most elements have atoms with different numbers of neutrons. These are called isotopes.

Atomic mass equals the number of what?

The atomic mass NUMBER equals the number of protons and neutrons in an atom. DO NOT confuse this with the mass of an atom.

What are the number of protons neutrons and electrons in an element?

Number of protons = Number of electrons = Atomic number Number of neutrons = Atomic number - Number of protons

Do electrons equal the sum of the number of neutrons and protons in an isotope?

No. The number of neutrons has no affect on the number of protons and electrons.

Protons electrons and neutrons in any given atom?

The atomic number of a chemical element is equal to the number of electrons or protons. The number of neutrons = Atomic weight of an isotope (rounded) - atomic number of the element (or the number of protons)

What is the number of neutrons electrons and protons in nitrogen14?

there are 7 neutrons, 7 protons, and....----electrons

How many protons electrons and neutrons does americium have?

Americium has 95 protons and electrons. Number of neutrons: atomic mass of an isotope - number of protons
