Check for damage, volume (is it the correct volume for your procedure? is it a blow out pipette? where the meniscus should fall before proceeding), clean and dry, use index finger to control volume, always condition equipment.

You should have an adequate buret clamp or stand to hold the buret while you work with both hands.
