Coal has several disadvantages as an energy source.

1. Burning coal releases large amounts of carbon dioxide, contributing to global warming.

2. Burning coal also releases various other pollutants which lead to acid rain and other forms of environmental harm.

3. Coal mining has always been a very dangerous business with many fatalities, which we have recently seen in China and in West Virginia.
Because coal contains carbon it releases carbon dioxide when it is burnt. Carbon dioxide is the pollution that is causing global warming.
The only real problems are that it pollutes the atmosphere and its not infinite. However, while known oil reserves are projected to only last another 50 years at our current rate of use, our coal mines have barely been touched and should continue to be a source of fuel for a long time. I guess I should also mention that it can be very dangerous to mine it. Then again that is why coal miners make the amount of money that they do.

What is coal energy?

Coal energy refers to the use of coal as a fuel source to generate heat or electricity. This involves burning coal to produce steam, which then drives turbines to generate electricity. However, coal energy is associated with environmental pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

Is coal a source of energy?

Yes, coal is a fossil fuel and a source of energy. When burned, coal releases heat energy that can be used to generate electricity in power plants. However, its use contributes to air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

Why do you use coal source energy?

Coal is used as an energy source due to its abundance and relatively low cost. It has high energy content, making it efficient for electricity generation. However, coal is a major contributor to air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, leading to environmental concerns.

What is one type energy that is released and not useful when coal is burnt?

One type of energy released and not useful when coal is burnt is thermal energy in the form of waste heat. This energy is often lost to the environment in the process of burning coal and is not harnessed for productive use.

How can you overcome the disadvantages of coal?

To overcome the disadvantages of coal, transitioning to cleaner renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydro power is key. Investing in research and development for cleaner coal technologies, such as carbon capture and storage, can also help reduce its negative impact on the environment. Additionally, implementing strict regulations and policies that promote energy efficiency and the reduction of coal usage can help mitigate its drawbacks.

What are ways to increase and decrease of the use of coal in the US?

To increase the use of coal in the US, policies could be implemented that provide incentives or subsidies for coal production, reduce regulations on coal mining, and promote coal as a cheap and reliable source of energy. To decrease the use of coal, policies could focus on transitioning to cleaner energy sources like renewable energy, imposing stricter regulations on coal emissions, and encouraging energy efficiency measures to reduce overall energy consumption.

Why China choose to use coal as their major energy sources?

Because coal makes a really good source of energy and is not that expensive.

Who uses coal?

Companies use coal to generate electricity. People use coal to heat their houses. Steam trains use coal to power their engines. Companies use coal and burn them to make hot air to spin their turbine to make energy.

What coal is its main use in the US?

It is burned in coal-fired power plants to supply energy.

Disadvantages of coal mining?

coal is a nonrenewable resource, so once we use it all we will never have it again. also people get killed in coal mines because they can collapse after a point of time.
