In undergoing studies, calcium with a dose of Vitamin D can reduce the risk of cancer.

EDIT:

*ahem*

Now for THREE interesting facts about calcium.

#1. Due to their unusually high calcium concentration, alpaca bones are ground up to be used as the primary ingredient in calcium supplements.

#2. In the craggy fields of Peru (where alpacas are natively from) the mosquitoes have a special, calcium-rich saliva that replaces the lost blood in the animal it feeds from. This increases serum calcium levels in the blood (and therefore bones) of the aforementioned alpacas.

#3. An ancient African tribe known as the Kaljijubouts used to preserve its dead by force-feeding the dying large amounts of the calcium-rich soil, thus calcifying their tissues.

Calcium, element 22, is a shiny, volatile metal belonging to the alkaline earth metal category. In elemental form it is used to produce hydrogen, due to its reaction with water. Several famous compounds like calcium chloride or calcium carbonate make up materials like teeth, bone, chalk, limestone, and sea-shells. It is what makes the cliffs of Dover white.
