Disadvantages -

- Use up a nonrenewable/finite resource

- take a long time to decompose

- take up space in landfill

- cause pollution in oceans

- produce poisonous gases on combustion

Advantages -

- can form any shape

- they don't corrode

- cheaper than alternative materials

- less dense so lighter

- good insulator of heat ( home insulation )

- good insulator of electricity ( wire covers )

- wind power is impossible without plastics ( Special plastics are used in the wind turbine covers and huge blades to tap into this environmentally friendly energy source! )

- The amount of fuel a delivery truck needs could be considerably reduced if the cargo uses plastic containers? Obvious: lightweight means less fuel consumption!

Hope this helps :-)
