Molecules.

A common molecule in air is O2, or two oxygen atoms stuck together.

A 'particle' is a general term for anything very, very small. A molecule specifically indicates a combination of two of more atoms. Atoms are the smallest things which can exist independently, they come in over 100 different types and all substances are made up of different combinations of atoms.

For example iron is made up of Iron atoms but steel is made of iron atoms with some carbon atoms. Diamond is made of carbon atoms while petrol (gasoline) is made of a combination of carbon and hydrogen atoms.

Water is a molecule made of oxygen and hydrogen.

The air is a mixture of things. Nitrogen gas makes up most of the air, each molecule of nitrogen is made of two nitrogen atoms joined together. Oxygen is another major component of the air and again, each molecule is made of a pair of oxygen atoms.

(Not all things are combined, helium is a gas found in the very highest parts of our atmosphere and is not a molecule but instead exists as individual atoms.)

The small particles that make up matter are called atoms. Atoms are known as life's building blocks for this reason.

Does a homogeneous mixture have visible particles?

Visible particles would be heterogeneous elements of a mixture. A truly homogeneous mixture would have no visible particles. However, you could still have an approximately homogeneous mixture with visible particles, evenly distributed throughout the mixture.

What do mixtures have in them that makes particles visible?

nothing, the particles are visible because the particles are in the mixture. The substances being visble and identifiable in a mixture is because that mixture is heterogenous.

What decides what cloud will form?

Clouds form when the invisible water vapor in the air condenses into visible water droplets or ice crystals. There is water around us all the time in the form of tiny gas particles, also known as water vapor. There are also tiny particles floating around in the air - such as salt and dust - these are called aerosols.

Why is smoke visible while air is not?

Smoke consists of tiny particles that are larger and denser than air molecules. As light interacts with these particles, it scatters in various directions, making the smoke visible. In contrast, air is composed of transparent molecules that are much smaller and do not scatter light significantly, so it appears invisible.
