Organic chemicals have atoms bonding covalently with other atoms and must include carbon atoms.

Organic chemicals include hydrocarbons, carbohydrates, amino acids (proteins), nucleic acids, alkaloids, etc. Many organic chemicals are polymers of simpler organic compounds, including a few very large chain molecules (e.g. DNA) that can actually be seen directly in an optical microscope.
