Some of the water might evaporate but as for the sugar it will dissolve. This is a homogeneous mixtures because you wouldn't be able to tell out the different parts (sugar and water) once it is mixed together.

when you do this, the sigar dissolves and if you wait long enough, it will harden into a crystal like substance. it is completely edible
