In my studies, I have found very little about his influences. However, his father was a wealthy man and left him a large inheritance so he could go to Egypt to be schooled. He studied for seven years mainly mathematical and physical systems. This doesn't necessarily mean that's all he studied, so if you were to look up some of the Egyptian beliefs and ideas (etc.) you may get a good idea of what he would have learned there.
I have also found that he was influenced by a Greek Philosopher by the name Leucippus. He was one of the earliest philosophers of atomism. Now, whether he took Leucippus' idea further or if he knew him in person I can't say. However, they are supposedly born around 100 years apart (perhaps less) and they were both born in Abdera: So we see that they may have had a direct connection.
Thirdly, there was Melissus of Samos. He was a naval commander and statesman who also contributed to philosophy. He supposedly bore influence on the atomism of both Leucippus and Democritus. Melissus was a student of Parmenides (an ancient Greek philosopher born in Elea) whose philosophies he extended.
That's about all I know. If you need some more help let me know.
I should tell you, I am a ninth grader so although I believe what I am telling you is totally true, you may consider researching this information yourself to verify what I've written. You might consider using a website outside of Wikipedia considering anyone can write anything there so it might not be true.
Hope I helped!
Democritus, an ancient Greek philosopher, is known for proposing the concept of atomism - the idea that all matter is made up of tiny, indivisible particles called atoms. His ideas laid the foundation for modern atomic theory and influenced the development of scientific thought in fields such as chemistry and physics.
He doesn't have a last name therefore his full name is just Democritus. I find it weird, I thought having two names was a mandatory thing back then. Apparently not!
No sure data exist about Democritus father.
no
Democritus was an ancient Greek philosopher who was a pupil of Leucippus. Democritus suggested that different types of small discrete particles formed all matter. He suggested that the properties of the tiny particles are what determined the property of the matter.
Aristotle had more people believe in his ideas than Democritus. Aristotle's teachings greatly influenced Western philosophy and science, while Democritus's atomic theory was not widely accepted during his time.
Democritus's main contribution to physics was discovery of the atom. He devoted his life to finding out as much as possible to create what is thought to be the first atomic theory.
Democritus, the ancient Greek philosopher, did not attend a formal school in the way we understand it today. Instead, he is often associated with the philosophical teachings of Leucippus, who is considered his mentor. Democritus traveled extensively, studying various schools of thought and gathering knowledge from different cultures, which influenced his development of atomic theory.
