Its actually called VSEPR (valence shell electron pair repulsion). The theory is simply a model to describe how molecules are oriented in three dimensions. Like where each bong is pointing and where the electrons are. It goes on the basis that electrons will repel each other, and get as far away from each other as possible. Take for example methane (CH4). the carbon has 4 identical hydrogens attached to it, each with a single bond. The single bond means the carbon and hydrogen are sharing a pair of electrons. The electrons of each hydrogen will push the hydrogen apart, creating a tetrahedral shape. The VSEPR theory provides method for predicting this for all sorts of molecules. included in it is bond angles.

Google VSEPR if youre looking for more specific orientations (planar, trigonal planar, tetrahedral, square based pyramid, etc).
