What is the area in an atom that is outside and around the nucleus?

do you mean outside of a nucleus?if so, electronsAnother AnswerIf we were small enough to see the individual parts of an atom, outside the atom would be more space. As we get larger, heading back to our own size, at a certain scale we would see the atom's vibration and ripples in space turn into the molecular boundary. As we continue to return to our normal size, we would see the billions of atoms in a cubic mm. As we reach our normal size, we would see the normal world which is made up from the countless number of molecules/atoms arraigned in incredible combinations.

The atoms that constitute your body are mostly empty space and structure such as the chair youre sitting on are composed of atoms that are also mostly empty space So why dont you fall through?

I'm not sure...I would go with: the atoms in the chair are strong, so empty space is less important because of the weight distribution. Also, my guess would be that the empty space is mainly in an area that doesn't support your weight. The newest theory to answer this is applied to "How do the stars and planets hang where they are?" See: Dark matter. It is believed now that it is dark matter that holds things together. I was watching a show on National Geographic that mentioned atoms being mostly empty space. They asked this question but in the context of a batter hitting a ball. The nucleus of an atom is enveloped by electrons which repel other electrons. They also said that because of this, nothing can actually ever touch: there is always a slight gap between objects. The sensation of touch is actually you feeling the repulsion of the electrons. EDIT: From what I understand the ratio of empty space to solid space between the nucleus of an atom and it's electron is almost an exact ratio in size and distance of the Earth to the Sun. The electron's rotation is what keeps two objects separate. However, if something were vibrating at an entirely different frequency from another thing, it would be capable of passing right through it. The speed of the electron is so extreme that even light is reflected off of it's surface making an object appear to be solid. There are many theories involving alternate dimensions and realities that vibrate on other frequency ranges, exist at the same time and place as we do, but never affect our reality.

What are mono atomic gases?

A monatomic gas is a gas that "hangs around" in the form of single atoms. Let's take a little journey to get where we need to go. The funny thing about a lot of gases is that they are what is called diatomic. You've heard of oxygen and you've also heard it called "O2" in a lot of instances. That's because oxygen atoms in the air cruise around in a "buddy system" with another atom of their own kind. We know that nitrogen (N2), oxygen (O2), fluorine (F2), chlorine (Cl2) and the like all operate as diatomic molecules. But what about monatomic gases? It is the inert gases or noble gases that hang around in the air as single atoms. Their nature is that they don't want to "hook up" with anything else; they don't want to form compounds. And they are monatomic gases when we encounter them. You'll recall that the monatomic gases are helium (He), neon (Ne), argon (Ar), krypton (Kr), xenon (Xe) and radon (Rn). They are all in Group 18, and appear in that order from the top to bottom of that group.

Which part of an atom is positively charged and which part is negatively charged?

It is the nucleus of an atom that is positively charged. You'll recall that an atom is made up of protons, neutrons and electrons (hydrogen-1 excepted). And the protons and neutrons hang out in the nucleus, giving it an overall positive charge because the proton has a positive change.

How does a Density Column work?

Oil and water don't mix because of how their molecules are constructed. Water is what is known as a polar molecule. A water molecule is shaped like a V, with an oxygen atom at the bottom point of the V and a hydrogen atom on each of the two top ends. However, there is unequal sharing of electrons between the hydrogen and oxygen atoms. This means that the bottom of the molecule has a negative electrical charge, while the top carries a positive charge. Vegetable oil, on the other hand, is a nonpolar molecule made of long chains of hydrocarbons-strings of carbon atoms bonded to hydrogen atoms. Unlike the water molecule, there is equal sharing of electrons between the carbon and hydrogen atoms. This means that the electrical charges of the atoms are not separated, so the molecules don't have opposite positive and negative ends. If you were to think of molecules like groups of people, the polar molecules hang out with other polar molecules, and the nonpolar molecules with other nonpolar molecules. This brings us back to the reason why oil and water don't mix. Water is a polar molecule, and it just doesn't hang out with nonpolar molecules like oil. Scientists say that oil and water are immiscible. The adage "like dissolves like" will help you remember what will mix with what. Salt and water mix because both molecules are polar-like dissolves like. It's also easy to mix vegetable oil and olive oil, or motor oil and peanut oil . . . but that's gross. You can do this experiment at home using liquids you find around the house. Some of my favorites are honey, Karo syrup, Dawn dish soap, water, rubbing alcohol and vegetable oil. Experiment with the different densities of the liquids to determine which ones will float on top of the others. Hint: start by figuring out which liquid has the highest density.

How do positive and negative charges in the outer shell of an atom connect with each other?

The outer shell of an atom is populated by electrons, which have a negative charge. Protons, which have a positive charge hang out in the nucleus of the atom.
