A "hydrophobic" amino acid is an acid that "fears" water. When in contact with water, the hydrophobic amino acid will cause that section of protein to stay away from water.

What is meant by a hydrophobic amino acid?

The side chains of some amino acids are hydrophobic but not all. You can see the molecular structure of those that have hydrophobic side chains by going to http://tinyurl.com/ycyj645.

What does it meant to be civilized?

To behave in a courteous and caring manner to other people.

What is a example of a protein?

if you meant what is Protein in? Eggs (the white), steak, fish, chicken, cheese (lots fat too!). or if you meant what you meant... Amino acids.

Do amino acids have protein?

Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Proteins are simply chains of amino acids. I think you meant to ask do proteins have amino acids. Amino acids as the name indicates (Amino) have amine groups, carboxylic acid groups and a side chain that varies depending on the amino acid (20 differnet types).

Why do hydrophobic substances dissolve in water?

It depends on the physical properties of the substance. Sometimes heating a hydrophobic substance can increase solubility. Also, heating may cause the substance to denature and dissolve. In the case of proteins, proteins can contain many hydrophobic parts but still be soluble in water. However, hydrophobic substances do not typically dissolve in water, due to the polar nature of water. Typically, scientists use the word "hydrophobic" only to describe substances that have a negligible solubility in water. You may have meant to ask "why do hydrophilic substances dissolve in water".

What is meant by the phrase membranes are bifacial?

membrane are composed of a lipid bilayer. their hydrophobic tails face the inside of the membrane and their hydrophilic heads face their environment.

What do protease break down into?

Protease is an enzyme so it would break down into amino acids. (If you meant protein then the same is true)

How many amino acid sequences can be made from four amino acids?

There are 20 common amino acids (pre-modification). In a set of any four, each one could be one of 20, meaning there are 204 possible combinations: 160,000. If the question was meant to be "how many amino acids can be made from 4 triplet codons then the answer would still be exactly the same. Even though there are 4 bases, meaning there are 64 different codes possible, there are still only 20 amino acids available. If the question was meant to be "how many amino acids can be made from 4 bases" you can only make one (which could be any of 20 different residues), as you need three bases to code one amino acid. See the related question below for a listing of the types of amino acids.

What is meant by the scientific term blob?

When an amino acid chain structure folds together and winds in and out of each other.

What is meant by the term blob?

The last stage in the formation of a protein, when the amino acid chains fold in on themselves for the fourth and final time.

What is meant by the term Social Learning?

This is the process of people learning by watching the behavior of others. They learn how to change and control their own behavior by seeing how others behave.

What is meant by deffensive driving?

Basically it means driving as if all other users are likely to do something wrong. Be prepared for the unexpected and do not assume people will behave as they should.
