Rubber itself is an addition polymer of a diene (a hydrocarbon molecule containing twodouble bonds) called isoprene or 2-methyl-1,3-butadiene with the following formula:

CH2=C(CH3)-CH=CH2

Like polysaccharides and proteins, rubber forms in nature through a complex set of reactions. Nevertheless, we can view it as polyisoprene, an addition polymer of isoprene. After polymerisation, double bonds remain in the polymeric chain as follows:

-[CH2-C(CH3)=CH-CH2]n-

What are natural and synthetic polymers?

A natural polymer would be rubber which is obtained from nature. A synthetic polymer would be polybutadiene which behaves like rubber.

What is the definition of semi -synthetic polymer?

semi-synthetic polymers are obtained from natural polymers by subjecting them to some chemical processes. eg: vulcanised rubber.

What is the symbol of rubber?

If the question is in regard to the chemical symbol of rubber, rubber does not have a chemical symbol. This is because rubber is a chemical compound rather than a single chemical element. Many rubber compounds are hydrocarbons (composed of carbon and hydrogen), and there are many, many different rubber compounds. A general division of rubbers is that between natural rubber and synthetic rubber, and these have been developed over years to suit a wide variety of applications.
