Technetium, symbol Tc, (chemically comparable with manganese)

  • atom number 43
  • mass number 99
  • normally absent in nature,
  • unstable element (t1/2= 50,000 year) by electron emission (max. 0,32 MeV)

Compareable to: Molybdenium atom number 42, mass number 99(!)

[from Wikipedia.nl, translated by me, JdQ:]

In 1937 technetium was discovered by Italian scientists Carlo Perrier and Emilio Segrè analysing a molybdenium sample sent to them by Ernest Lawrence. The sample was bombed in a cyclotron with deuteriumkernen (=neutron bombing) at Universiteit van Californië - Berkeley by which the isotoop 97Tc was created. Technetium was the first artificially produced element.
