"Sulfuric acid" (note proper spelling) IS the IUPAC name. Brits, if chemists in the US can be forced to accept the execrable "aluminium" (I'll give you "caesium" without complaint, because it's based on a Latin word that really is spelled with that weird "ae" you like so much, but insisting on "aluminium" without also requiring "platinium" is just hypocritical of you), you can bite the bullet and accept the eminently sensible "sulfur".
