Hydrogen, its the most abundant thing in the universe other than space and time (and mabye dark matter idk about that) because it has the Atomic Mass of one, meaning anything will sink beneath it unless the hydrogen is unable to flat due to being trapped in something like a ballon.

In short, it has less mass than anything so it has less gravitational pull

OH WAIT, YOU JUST ASKED WHAT IT WAS AND NOT WHY SORRY!!! XD

Hydrogen: molecular weight 2 x 1.008 = 2.016 so it is about half the weight of the next heaviest element Helium which has a molecular weight = atomic weight of 4.003.

Hydrogen is the lightest gas anywhere.

Is it nitrogen gas fills up in balloons?

In balloons, it is desirable to use the lightest possible gas. Nitrogen is a relatively heavy gas with Atomic mass no. of 14. Instead, a much lighter gas, Helium, is used. It has an Atomic mass no. of 4. Hydrogen was used a long time ago, since it was the lightest gas. But due to its explosive nature, it is no longer used.
