Where can platinum be found in nature?

Platinum was first mined commercially in South Africa. But it is found in various amounts in gold ores, so that yellow gold in Ancient Egypt contains platinum, and white gold in pre-Columbian Ecuador had significant platinum content. It was from South America that Antonio de Ulloa identified platinum as a separate metal, although alloys were studied by William Brownrigg and Charles Wood as early as 1741. A malleable form of the metal was prepared by Carl von Sickingen in 1772.

What does it mean when a ring has 750 and pt950 is the ring a combination of 18k gold and platinum or is it platinum plated?

pt950 means that the ring is Platinum (PT on the periodic table) and 950/1000 for purity which makes it 95% pure platinum. 18 karats is about 75% of the precious metal, and 25% something else, so the platinum component in your ring is almost 24 karats, very pure, only 5% non-precious metal. The 750 on your ring should bereferring to gold, in that your gold is 18 karat, IE 75% precious metal. Usually when I've seen markings for platinum and gold, it means the ring is 2 tone, is that the case here? It should have both gold and platinum visible on it? I am in no way an expert, but this is the information as i know and understand it. Here are some links that might help clarify for you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carat_(purity) http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=6681 http://engagementrings.pricescope.com/platinum.asp (just for a little extra platinum info) I hope all this helped :-/
