You need a funnel in the laboratory. In industry an adequate pump is necessary.

In addition to using a funnel, you will need a wide-mouth beaker to transfer the chemical from the primary container to a container that can be taken to a lab station such as those in chemistry labs in high school and college.

Depending upon what type of chemical you are working with along with being as safe as possible, read any and all pertinent information on the back of the original bottle of the chemical you are about to use. It is best to wear older clothing yet be mindful of loose sleeves as these can easily catch on a lab setup, gasline switch, or even a lighted chemistry torch. Wear a lab coat, plastic or rubber aprons, heavy shoes (no flip-flops or sandals, including open-toe dress shoes as any chemical spill can cause physical damage to the skin. Find out if the chemical requires face mask or eye goggles as well; it is also important to know exactly where the safety equipment is located such as fire extinquish, first-aid kit, eye-wash station, and an emergency button to call for help in case of working alone and something goes wrong where a person might need medical care or more.

A primary chemical that can be extremely hazardous to the skin, eyes, and other parts of the body is hydrochloric acid (aka muratic acid - this chemical is actually used to clean concrete pools, including the steps and when doing so, every precaution against chemical burn should be taken). Hydrochloric acid, depending upon the strength levels, can cause anything from a minor skin irritation to literally burning through the dermis level to the point where scarring is highly probable although a highly recommended plastic surgeon with the utmost experience in this area of correction can use skin grafts to reduce if not completely remove burns from hydrochloric acid; however, it is always most important no matter what chemicals are used at any time, particularly when mixing chemicals is to be certain of all directions and put safety first.
