In a solid state, the molecules are less free to move around. They are in an order, all bunched together neatly jiggling in their space. In a liquid state however, the molecules are more free to move around, they can be adjusted and moved easily.

Since the molecules can move more freely in a liquid state than a solid state, there is more disorder in the liquid state than in the solid state. This goes up the chain of states of matter by the way, from solid to liquid to gas to plasma, the disorder increases as the substance temperature increases.

What happens when substances goes through a phase change?

Melting: the substance changes back from the solid to the liquid. Condensation: the substance changes from a gas to a liquid. Vaporization: the substance changes from a liquid to a gas. Sublimation: the substance changes directly from a solid to a gas without going through the liquid phase.

When the water densest as a liquid or solid?

Water is an atypical substance in that its liquid phase is denser than its solid phase. This can be seen as ice floats in a glass of water.

What are two physical changes that cooling a hot substance may result in?

The substance could liquefy or solidify. Cooling a gas: change from the gas phase to the liquid phase Cooling a liquid: change from the liquid phase to the solid phase

LIQUDIFCATION!!!!!!!! Change of phase; the process is called melting.

What is volatile solvent?

A solid that can easily tranform into a gas.

What is the process to liquid to solid?

In physics, the solid to liquid process is known as melting. The three states of matter are solid, liquid, and gas. There is a change in phase or a phase transition in a substance when there is a change in either its temperature or pressure. The melting process is a phase transition.

What is the liquid phase?

There are three states of matter. they are solid , liquid and gas. A substance is said to be in a phase when it exhibits that state of matter. Ice is water in the solid phase. Water is ice in the liquid phase. Water vapour/steam is water and or ice in the gaseous phase.

Is wood a sublimatory substance?

No. A sublimatory substance changes from the solid phase directly to the gas phase without passing through a liquid phase. Two examples are dry ice (solid CO2) and iodine.

When is a substance in the gaseous phase called a vapor?
