This is so you can know the base line. The base line is used as the starting point for the mesaurements used for the Rf values. you need to know the distance from the base line to the point of the spot to know the Rf values.
see related link below for more info about paper chromatography
the pencil mark will not break down into pigments when you do the chromatography, but most pens etc will. you mark it with a pencil so it will be there when your done with your experiment
Because the pencil doesn't dissolve in water.
The ink (or other soluble materials) from a pencil can interfere with the chromatogram if it is dissolved.

What you see as a pencil line is graphite - carbon. The graphite is held together by a clay which will contain very many elements specific to the clay being used.
because the colours would mix together, making the results unreliable
if it wouldn't be above the level of solvent the spots will run off
Try and see: if it wouldn't be above the level of solvent, the spots will run off.
true
The baseline where dyes are placed in a chromatogram is typically not drawn with a pen because the ink from the pen could potentially interfere with the separation of the dyes. Using a pen may introduce additional components into the chromatogram that can affect the accuracy and reliability of the analysis. Instead, a pencil or other non-reactive marking tool is typically used to mark the baseline.
because the pen or marker will run and the pencil will not.Did this answer your question(if this did not you are a complete idiot):)
No it is not.
So the drawing is a very fine line and easy to rub out?
we know that graphite(pencil lead)conducts electricity.a line drawn by the pencil contains graphite particles.then why can't it conduct electricity?
The piece of lead in a pencil or the pencil.
Civil ingineer pencil
draw it with a pencil
A pencil, possibly! A pencil, possibly! A pencil, possibly! A pencil, possibly!
not neccessarily, because you can create line art with different medias such as ink. Line art, i think is the usage of lines to create a hidden image. Pencil art is, of course, usage of the glorious pencil.
i use pencil to draw a line
No, a plane can contain only one point of a line. Picture a piece of paper with a pencil stabbed through it. The paper is the plane, and the pencil is the line. The pencil/line only touches the paper/plane at one point. Hope this helped! If it did, please recommend me. -Brad
