Pure aluminum isn't used for ANYTHING--even a cola can is made from aluminum alloy. Aerostructures are made from various aluminum alloys chosen for their strength, workability or other desirable characteristics.

This is due to the fact that Aluminium is just not strong enough on its own so is turned into an alloy (metals mixed together) in this case it would have a majority of Aluminum. And also it would not be completely rust proof so a galvanised layer is added to preserve the alloy underneath.
