When he returned from the war, Michael's father decided to step out of the picture and leave the new family intact and he emigrated to Canada. Michael was two years old. Micheal morpurgo is a talented auther and has written a great range of books for teenagers and pre teens. these include "why the whales came" "the wreck of zanzibar" which i truly recommend and also "my friend Walter" but i personally find his book "Private Peaceful" the best of his books as it is suitable for all ages.
They are mostly aimed at 9 - 13 year olds as lots of them have sad storylines (such as World War II) and in some bookes people or animals do die in them....My child who is aged 10 loves all the Micheal Morpurgo books, whereas my 14 year old child doesnt enjoy them very much (she thinks they are to childish). I think they also apeal to girls more than boys, which is strange because they are about War, however they are not about guns...they put a very good point through and are all very emotional for adults as well.......
Michael Morpurgo appreciated "The Butterfly Lion," "Kensuke's Kingdom," "War Horse," and "Private Peaceful" for their powerful exploration of themes such as friendship, bravery, and the impact of war. Each story showcases his talent for weaving emotional narratives that resonate with readers of all ages. Morpurgo's deep connection to nature and animals also shines through, particularly in "War Horse." Ultimately, his works reflect a commitment to storytelling that highlights the human experience and the struggles of individuals in challenging circumstances.
I think all of his book are great but the most popular one is friend or foe.
