Well, I'm not sure that it would be an earth-shattering change, but it would definitely be different in some ways. Nursery Rhymes are a staple of childhood, and a shared knowledge-base for many people. I won't say all, because even in American culture, there are some pockets that don't know any literature at all, even through oral tradition. But the fact is, if you don't know some of the traditional nursery rhymes... or Fairy Tales... some common things will go over your head. But, not earth-shattering, as I said. Unless you are going to become a folklorist, you can get around it fairly easily. You don't know who little boy blue is... so what? You either look him up online, or you miss what someone says a couple of times. Sad, yes... especially if you are a crossword junkie, or a folklore fanatic. But not something that would destroy you either. :) I think that some of our cliches woudl be different, and a lot of little girls wouldn't really know what to say while jumping rope... but then again, if we didn't have some, we'd probably just make up some new ones. :)
Nursery rhymes suck.
