The Bible might have one line of reasoning on this question. The Bible states that man-kind was created 'in God's image'. Therefore mankind was created to 'wonder' things. Unlike animal-kind who never wonder about where they came from, nor how the universe started; man-kind has the capacity to process different bits of information. People are very curious beings. We often wonder about our family tree. This has to do with origins. Even people who are adopted early in life, they still wonder about their biological parents. They go to great lengths for answers. Once these things are 'filled in', they find a sense of contentment. Likewise in school, they teach us 'history'. This fills an inner curiosity. Most people also wonder about things much further back, like your question about the origin of the Universe and how it started. You may know that the Bible teaches that 'God' created or 'started' the Universe. Genesis 1:1 says: "In the beginning - God created - - the heavens and the earth." (Some translations place 'heavens' in the singular.) The Bible teaches that this God, was there even before the 'beginning'. God is said to be 'eternal'. But then you only asked about 'the universe', you did not ask about 'before' the universe started. (If you would like to learn more about How the universe started from the Bible's viewpoint. I'd be happy to respond further. Let me know. I'm full of answers; and can guide you to some further reference material upon request.) I believe that it is in our nature to wonder like cats are always compared to curiosity. If we didn't wonder we wouldn't do anything go anywhere and accomplish much of anything, so basically it's a way of living or a way of survival
