The value, as always, depends on the quality and grade of the coin. In F12 grade a 1940 Canada 25 cent piece is worth about $2.75 ranging up to MS65 at $15.00. If the coin grades below F12 it is probably worth around face value or the value of the silver content, which ever is higher. Always have coins graded by a professional. In cases like this it would most likely not be cost effective to do so but if you want to sell it, label it as ungraded and take good pictures so the buyer can judge for themselves. Never label a coin as an exact grade unless it is done so by a professional.
