The Philippines 1974 proof set was never released for sell to the general public.
only 10,000 sets were made at a value of 100 dollars each set. Only a few
were given away to visiting dignitaries from G7 nations connected to the
world bank. In 1979 the set was listed in the world coin guide for about
110.00. most of these sets are still in the national archives at Manila.
Because of the fact that so few exist in the public domain no value has
been firmly established in the market place. Coins that are noticed in the press
tend to grow steadily in value over the years. This poor little set is like a
lost sheep that is truly perhaps (rare) in the number available to the public
but, doesn't command a very high price yet. This is because of the lack
of demand by collectors, not because the coins are not truly (rare) in the number available. We call this type rarity a sleeper. One Day the world may wake it up and overnight it could sell for 600.00 to maybe 1000.00 dollars.
At auction some have sold for 75.00 to 120.00 but, they sure are few and
for between. They are scarcely ever seen. I have seen more white grizzly
bears than, I have of these proof sets.
