Given Germany's history it's probably unlikely to be worth very much unless you could find out the account's original owners and trace what bank, if any, acquired the original bank's assets. If the account dates from the Nazi period you'd have even more difficulty doing so. ____ If the balance is demoninated in Reichsmark (RM) please note that when the currency was reformed in West Germany in June 1948 the conversion rate applied to balances up to RM5,000 was RM10 to 1 Deutsche Mark (DM). In 1999-2002 the DM was converted to the Euro at the rate of about DM1.96 to EUR1. So, even if you get the money it will be 3000/10/1.96 = EUR153.06. The cost of the research and paperwork may equal or exceed the value of the balance, especially if you need legal advice.
